Alexis Ebanks

About Me

Hi! I’m Alexis "Lexie" Ebanks, an 18-year-old senior at Comsewogue High School in Long Island, New York. I’m passionate about leadership, education, and wellness. At Comsewogue, I serve as a Class Representative in Student Government and founded the school's Kickline Team. Before transferring, I served as Student Government Vice President at Harborfields High School for three consecutive years and was an active member of multiple honor societies, chamber orchestra, and more! I’m also proud to be an AP Scholar and a National African American Recognition Awardee.

Service has shaped much of who I am. I've been a Girl Scout since first grade, earning the Bronze and Silver Awards through a combined total of 70 hours of service. Now, as a Gold Award candidate, the highest honor, I’m sharing my children’s book, STRONG: Building a Healthy Body and Mind, with schools across Long Island to inspire and empower young minds. STRONG stands for Strength, Teamwork, Resilience, Optimism, Nutrition, and Growth. Through its book, curriculum, and workshops, STRONG promotes mental and physical wellness in children. My district, Comsewogue, has adopted it for Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, allowing students to explore

resilience, develop healthy habits, and strengthen emotional well-being.

In January 2024, I was honored to earn the title of Miss Long Island Teen, an achievement that allowed me to combine my passions for advocacy, public speaking, and community engagement. During my reign, I attended walks, galas, and community events, spreading awareness about the importance of mental health, equity in schools, and the systemic factors that impact students’ success.

As an accomplished public speaker, I have been honored to engage in opportunities to share my message. I served as a guest speaker at the Academy Charter School Queens Club, where I shared my journey in education and philanthropy. Additionally, I was honored to deliver the keynote address at the Nassau County Annual 4Cs Youth Development Girls Summit, presenting a 20-minute speech to an audience of over 400 young women.

Outside of school, I’m a certified Zumba instructor at Forever Fit Gym, where I teach classes for all ages, blending my love for movement with a commitment to wellness. As a lifelong dancer and ballerina, I’ve trained at numerous schools including Joffrey NYC, Eglevsky Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre. These experiences taught me the powerful connection between physical activity and mental wellness—a principle that inspires my work with STRONG.

Music has always been a significant part of my life. I’ve been training on the piano since age 3, violin since age 6, and viola since age 13. I’m excited to share that I was recently selected to perform with the 2024/2025 Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA) for viola—an incredible honor to mark my final year as a high school musician. I look forward to performing with the group in January 2025!

Where to next?

As I prepare for the next chapter of my journey, I’m excited to pursue higher education and grow as a leader and advocate. I hope to study the fields of Sociology, Education, and Psychology—fields that align with my passion for human development, social justice, and mental wellness. I also hope to join dance groups, get involved in student government or leadership, and engage with Black affinity groups. Continuing my work as a fitness instructor will allow me to bring the joy of movement to my college community while furthering the mission of STRONG! Additionally, I hope to continue competing in pageants and am planning to compete for the title of Miss New York’s Teen in July 2025!
